This course is a survey of the sources behind the holiday of Chanukah. We will discuss what the Mishnaic and Talmudic sources present us with, in addition to non-canonized sources. We will consider secondary sources to give us the full picture of where this holiday comes from and how we celebrate Chanukah in this day and age.

Blima Zelinger Maged holds a Masters in Talmud and Bible from Yeshiva University’s Graduate Program in Advanced Talmudic Studies and a Masters in Jewish Education and Administration from the Azrieli Graduate Program. She has lectured across North America on the development of Jewish law and customs and previously taught Talmud and Bible at Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School. Blima received her BA in Political Science and Business Management from Stern College. Passionate about the Jewish community and its future, she served as the Toronto fundraiser for Israel Medical Centers and has spent summers leading trips to Israel with Birthright and Aish HaTorah.
